SonoftheTrinity - maybe the best thing you can do is be a model of a 'good' worldly person and hopefully be someone they will confide in outside the 'Truth'. I agree the attitude to higher education sucks big time. Recognising their talents and gently encouraging them to realise their potentials could help counter this. Good luck

sooner or later our children will have questions about religion and the differences mom and dad show towards it.

Is it wrong to mock and ridicule the Watchtower Society?
by yadda yadda 2 inrobert j ingersoll on the great voltaire:.
"it has been claimed by the christian critics that voltaire was irreverent; that he examined sacred things without solemnity; that he refused to remove his shoes in the presence of the burning bush; that he smiled at the geology of moses, the astronomical ideas of joshua, and that the biography of jonah filled him with laughter.
they say that these stories, these sacred impossibilities, these inspired falsehoods, should be read and studied with a believing mind in humbleness of spirit; that they should be examined prayerfully, asking god at the same time to give us strength to triumph over the conclusions of our reason.

ItsMy Life - I was just letting you know there was another thread so you could check it out - I am not techy enough to know how to create a link to that thread in this one - perhaps use of the word 'already' may have been ill advised. Sorry, Fraz

Cheeses said: "Its followers, beliefs and practises are all absurd, and if it weren't for the fact that they are so dangerous and destructive, their lifestyle would make for a great Monty Python script." While the Mighty Pythonites didn't mock JWs as such they certainly mocked predictions of the end of the world.

Elderly sister (married) says rumor is that RC talk says resurrected will be with thier mates! Poor thing.
by Wasanelder Once in87 year old sister (who's current husband, a total nazi one foot in the grave) was excited to relate that (she heard) a talk at the regional convention said a wife would be happy to meet her ressurected husband and grab him in her arms!
she reads that as reunion of the married kind.
she is pooping skittles she's so happy.

Voltaire was a great man. Mocking and ridiculing bombastic self-righteous hypocrisy is an imperative IMHO.

I Need Help Getting My Head Straight.......
by TTATTelder inone of the things i have been wresting with mentally is unraveling the "us vs. them" mentality that has been driven into my skull in the organization.. i am starting this thread seeking advice on how others have come to grip with this.. this is what i struggle with:.
i like the feeling/thought of being among people that live, or try to live, or at least know they ought to live by higher standards of conduct (maybe it is just what i'm used to...).
when you walk out of a convention of people dressed up, clean-cut, shaven, non-smoking, less-profanity-speaking, fairly orderly etc and see what greets you in the streets outside, it is a big contrast.. i am also still trying to understand how a religion that has conned people (so is morally wrong) could also be so well organized and have a lot of truly decent folks among their ranks.

Also as a lifelong worldly person who is law abiding, honest (if I see someone drop something I will go out of my way to give it back to them) and generally considerate to others and who has short hair, wears a suit to work and modest clothing of a weekend, doesn't smoke, drinks moderately and swears only occasionally, I am horrified at the ridiculous cardboard cutout image of worldly people perpetrated by the WBTS as part of its efforts to make Witnesses feel special and superior. Actually I think that the difference between that image and what my wife has observed of worldly people including me and my comments to her about how insulting the worldly people stereo-type is, have helped to stumble her.
